capacity of 8 3/4 diff

Hey guys hope everyone is still having fun. Finally solved my lack of a kickdown with the 904. Sliced and diced the linkage and am now a happy camper. New to mopar and need to know the capacity of the 8 3/4 rear and preferred type of lube. Also easiest way to drain the old. Am thinking the present lube is too thin and rear is somewhat whinny. 3 qts of 85w-140 and if it is a suregrip add a bottle of suregrip additive. The only way I know to drain is to pull it. Then scoop out the stinking grease with your hands and rags.

If your concerned and think this will be more then 1 time thing, you can add a drain plug. This is one method that I ran across a while back......

I added a drain plug to mine when I went through it. I used an allen wrench type plug that goes in almost flush with the housing, works great.

4.4 pints is the capacity according to the service manual. Whatever flavor you like best, conventional or synthetic. I have used the various 75-90W synthetics lately. Supposed to free up some power. We cant put on a chrome diff cover on our 8 3/4's so you gotta take your 5 hp where you can get it...

if it's whining I would think you have problems that lube change won't help
