drove my car yesterday and it was fine,,went to start it this morning and it won't stay running...it will start for a few seconds and shut off...could it be the fuel pump??

Dirty points could do that, if you're running points. Start at the beginning. Did it run out of gas? It could also be getting too much fuel if the float stuck, or a vacuum hose could have melted thru or come loose. Lots of other stuff, like water in he tank etc.

If it ran out of gas or was just ran low on fuel your fuel filter could be or is plugging up and when you shut the car off the pressure drops at the pump and crud fall's to the bottom of your filter, when you turn the key it starts then the filter plugs back up:glasses7: may be :coffee2: This could be easily checked, pop the hood and remove the air filter and when it dies look in the carb and see if fuel is pumping in the carb.

Could very well be your ballast resistor.

In the past I check them by jumping across it but only
for a few seconds. If your engine stays running you
have found your problem.

really bob! you get one of these... :newb:

what you have done to it
what its doing

not your first rodeo!

are you saying it fires on cranking and then dies when you let the key off?
