casting numbers???

I'm looking at possibly purchasing a 1971 340 motor, the seller has it listed as "*Motor is cast in 70 but marked as a 71 block" . So I what exactly does that mean. I want to installed it on a 1971 Demon.

You would need all the numbers to know for sure, but the 1971 model year ran from August 1, 1970 through July 31, 1971.

If it was cast in 70, and would have been put in 71 vehicle originally, is what it sounds like he is trying to say.

The date on the block is 7-1-1970.
