Hey, does anyone know what the cc's of a stock set of 596 small block heads are? I'm looking at pistons but can't come up with approximate comp. ratio without knowing the cc's of the head. Thanks in advance

They would be at least 72cc. I have a pair on my 85 d150 pickup truck. It has a 318 in it,i had the machine shop cut them down 40 thou on the bottom and 25 thou on the intake side and used the M.P thin head gasket.Every thing went together perfect.Work's great.

who knows for sure.

72cc's is a good guess since I posted that on another thread where I cc'd a set of factory 915 j 2.02 heads from my 70 duster.

every .0048 removed is worth 1 cc

Why not mill the block sides .040 and the intake sides .038 and use any intake with any set of stock intake gaskets? I'll edit when I get home tonight with the cc range if I can find it. Milling .040 brings Virgin "J" heads largest chamber to about 65 cc after a good valve job. To know for sure you have to measure them. What has been done before is probably an unknown. What valves are you using? How many valve jobs? How far are the valves sunk in?
