I have a 72 Challenger with stock style new ESPO springs & Dana 60 (Strange) rear with stock spring location & stock width. Car came with 255/70/15 tires on 15x8 wheels with 4.5 BS (Torque-D) on an 8.75 rear. Tires rubbed a bit going over bumps on the passenger side. Am looking at the Year One 17x9" rallye style wheels with 5" BS or the 17x8" with 4.5 BS. Need as much tire as I can get back there without rubbing. Would like to get the Nitto tires for traction but not sure how wide I can go. Thoughts?

Is the width of the new Dana 60 the same as the old 8 3/4? Not sure if the different rear axles were the same width (A-bodies aren’t).

I think most of your interference issue with your old set of tires was the fact that they’re 29” tall, which is a stretch even for an E-body. More so than the width for sure.

There are quite a few people running the YO 17x9’s with a 5” backspace with 275/40/17’s and no rubbing. That’s a pretty short tire though. Nitto makes the G2 in a 275/50/17, which should work.

OK thanks. Yes, I had the new Dana built to stock E Body width, so same as the 8.75.

Nitto makes a 255/50R17 which is 27" tall. basically the same dimensionally as a 255/60R15. a 275/50R17 will be 28" tall and basically the same dimensionally as a 275/60R15. if the rub was from the height and not the width, a 275/50R17 should work.
