Change steering wheel colour ?

We are going to be changing the interior colour of our car..I do know that PPG has a three part staining process for all the plastic but the steering wheel has been puzzleing me..do we just stain it as well and will sweat take the colour off ?

I painted the steering wheel on my '64 Valiant with the same paint I used on the dash and doors. I gave it several coats, as I anticipated a lot of wear. It's been five years and it still is not worn through.

Could put a cover or rap on it where the had wear will be. A clear coat should help too. I rattle caned one but did not use it long before I switched to a Grant wheel.
