charcoal cannister

What is the purpose of the charged canister that's bolted to the front wall of the engine compartment? Does it ever need replacement? just curious

You mean Charcoal cannister,right. Supposed to "cleanse" vented vapors from the fuel system,....Its an emission part,...Seen em replaced on crash jobs,...but I don't know about replacement for maintenance,...you can have mine if you want,...In Connecticut, if your car is 25 years or older it becomes emission exempt, so you can toss it if you want.
