The car I'm building is a 1974 Scamp drag car that weighs 2860 right now with plenty of weight left to remove. The.400 under the hood still has iron heads, and there's still crash bars in the door for crying out loud.

Does anybody on here know how much a chromoly roll bar weighs? I'm looking to get some leaf springs for my car and I'm wanting to plan ahead on what weight I get them for. I know I can drop a good 100 pounds out of the car with the weight left to remove, but the roll bar is an unknown variable for me.

You should be able to find the weight per foot or whatever measurement you're using for the specific size of material. Measure the cage and you're pretty close.

I think your bumpers to that car might weigh something around the neighborhood of 120 lb

My cage is more than the average being a 25.5 cert. I don't remember exactly, but around 120 lbs+/- sticks in my head.

Less than 2900lbs for a '74 Dart with an iron-headed big block? How gutted is the car? What scales were used. That's awesome how light you got it - with room to lose more too!

The CM cage should be around 100± lb depending how crazy you get with it.

Sounds like you will be able to get the bar weight back out of the car. I would recommend when you have the bar installed. Have the rear down bars setup for an anti roll bar. The anti roll bar up in the trunk attached to the two rear down bars. The you just need two holes through the trunk floor for the end links.

Agreed, the upper rear shock bar in my car serves 3 purposes. It ties my upper shock mounts, my anti-roll bar is attached to it, and my rear window speaker tray down bars tie into it.

There's no interior left. It's a dedicated drag car. I've taken almost everything out that doesn't require cutting up the doors.

The S&W 8.5 CM kit with plates and welding rods weighs 84lbs. I got the swing door kit, so deduct -3lbs from that if you go with a solid door bar.

I just installed one in my 72' Scamp last year.

Awesome, and that's a much more involved cage than what I'm going to have. That weight is killer. Your cage looks pretty slick, too.

Thank you

I added 2 extra downbars above where my anti-roll bar is mounted. I also X-braced the 2 rear downbars since they were longer. The thought process was to add as much rigidity as possible. The stock kit from S&W is 84lbs. With all of my extra bars/plates, it was 96lbs. Still not bad.
