Feel free to add to the list!!! Just off the top of my head:
1. The guy has the six cylinder project for sale for 44 weeks straight. He tells me he dropped the price from $4500 to $3500. No title, it ran when he backed it off the trailer 2 years ago, hasn't tried since?, admits to being a newbie and knows nothing about auto mechanicals or the hobby. Does it smoke or knock??? He don't know, NOT a c ar guy> Needs to sell as he found out what it costs to have a car painted! He has another keeper that needs body/paint!
2. Guy has his six cylinder car for sale, The neighbor, previous owner, drove it daily for 6 years before he parked it. Dropped in a SB. (WHY????). current owner lost interest wants it gone. He has not tried to start it (WHY?). I point out the NEW plug sires, plugs, cap/rotor ( missing battery), but he has not tried to start it. Any compression? Don't know how to tell. He has a title but he mentions " would you believe the title says it only weighs 1400#. Light ain't it!!!! Really......
3. Guy has a pretty solid old 74 six cylinder. Drove till the trans went out. $5000 and ain't budging, granny willed it to him, sentimental value! Maybe it is a parts car??? Insulted!
4. New paint on a car that lived its whole life on the coast! NO rust. (I hear ya). Ya gotta come look, ain't dropping the price till ya come look!!!! Man, it is 8 hour trip and NO rust under the paint or metal? Really????/

5. Then there's the "new" guy that wants a classic. Wife: So just how many $$ will this "toy" cost US??? Hubby: Well dear, I am new to all this, but best I as ascertain from studying Mecum, BJ, all the internet forums and FB, a nice one would be about $30-40,000. Wife: Damn we could send the kids to private schoolo, buy me a new Beemer, WE could have a famiulhy vaction in Jan., to the Bahamas!! Hubby: Well dear, IF I could find a project car, a roller, a builder I feel I could have similar car done in 3-4 years for pennies on the dollar. After all dear, I have a liberal arts degree and I am pretty good with a hammer! Wife: Go for it, it will be a fun challenge!
Five years later. Wife: That damn old car you bought is taking up space in the garage, MY Beemer sits outside, that "classic" is in a million pieces, the kids have broke or lost half the parts YOU took off, and admit it, YOU can not even begin to put it back together even IF you actually accomplished anything on it anyway! PLus, the maid threw out that 5 gal. bucket of nuts and screws you took off the damn thing! Hubby: I feel I can get it retored to like new, but it takes money and I am limited as to what I can do, even though I have a FSM, but lets face it, I am limited as all I have to work with is a claw hammer and the Dremel kit you bought, me 4 Christmans ago!! Wife: Sell the darn thing. Hubby: Sure, I will get my $ back for sure Deaar!

Ad runs in Market[place, CL. Ebay, and Bring a Trailer. Ad: Rare ******* one of only ******, partially disassembled, everything to put it all back together, No rust, needs only minimal body work, I have engine, seller said it was rebuilt when I bought the motor (paint still looks like new), lots of new parts go with ( belts, a coil, a carb kit (OK so it is wrong number). I have the seats ( out of a 86 Pontiac), 18 inch Getto wheels, a case of air freshner ( still smells like rat pee). $15,000 just trying to get back my initial costs. Disassembly is free.

Or the guy hounding the **** out of you but never comes and looks at it. Keeps asking questions that are covered in the ad.

The guy that pisses me off the most is the guy that has a nearly perfect car and when you compliment them, they complain that it's fucked up because it has a paint chip in the engine bay or some other small defect and that they are embarrassed to drive it like that until they get it completely repainted.

I know it's probably just me but I hate when cars are advertised as a Hemi cars, 440 cars, 4 speed car or in the Chevy world a Z28. When the cars are shells, no drivetrain whatsoever! To me it's just the car at that point. And their asking price is AS IF the drivetrain was there !! In my opinion the value of most of those are in the drivetrain.

I Saw an ad for a couple of the plastic DEMON badges for inside the door. Guy wanted $400 for the pair and said "We all know what these are worth". :BangHead:

Time to find a new wife. ......or a stripper.

I like the guys that ask, Whats this car worth ? Bla bla bla, Well it only cost $3,205.13. Is it in like new condition ?

Same here. I remember an argument on a facebook group, where someone was selling a 1967 Hemi GTX with no engine or trans. So many people arguing it's a Hemi GTX because the vin/fender tag says so. My opinion? Can't call it a Hemi whatever if the Hemi ain't there! The Hemi is the centerpiece in any Hemi car. Same goes for any L-78, LS-6, 440+6, Ram Air IV, W-30, Etc. car. No OG drivetrain, no big $$$$.

If the add seems goofy and I don't like the content, I just move on. :)

Generally, a person can tell a real car guy and somebody that knows a little something just by how they write the advertisement.

I had a potential buyer ask me a good question "How did I arrive at the price for my car?" I said, unlike probably 95% of the sellers on FB, I have 50 years real world experience in the hobby, restoring, building, selling, buying..all of it, I understand the current market...... BUT one way to get somewhat a handle is "bookmark" cars on FB for sale, and come back and see what sells. Next week, next month, next year! No, that does not tell how much it actually sold for, but you get a good idea of what is selling. and not selling. Then I add, most of the non classic car hobby guys selling, have NO clue, they simply see what the other guy lists his ride at! And IF those never sell because priced way above the actual market, it is a mess!

A guy inherits an old car that has sat in grand paws pasture for decades, and puts a silly price on it due to ignorance or greed, and there ya go. There are many reasons there are way overpriced old classics on CL, FB Marketplace. Overpriced rollers that are half parted out junk, projects bought someone took ALL apart and now has figured out he can not do it all, the guy that bought a project, overpriced and has now given up, and wants his $ back plus a profit! The list is long.

I told a newbie (nice guy and not stupid) other day, I said, you are retired and have $$$, you wanted to get some old classics to build, work one, learn, enjoy it all, BUT there is a learning curve. If we had meet earlier, I could have saved you thousands with just some free small advice. You have a car for sale, been for sale, you have dropped the price some (not enough) and it is still for sale. You have no idea that either the PO or the guy YOU paid to do the quarters had NO idea. Which ever was the case. Hung way wrong. And... HTF did anyone manage even to cut into the C pillow hanging that qtr????? Really????? You want that car gone, so you can put those $$ into the paint on your other two builders, as YOU have figured out how many $ and how hard it is to find anyone to do the work (correctly). BUT you don't want to take a loss, you want the buyer to be screwed!!!! So there you sit, with a car you bought 1 year ago, drove it on and off the trailer, never started since, NO title, wrong seats, paid too much, a total project missing all kinds of parts and you tell me you have no idea how to check its compression?????

The common theme here seems to be that y'all are dealing with people on Facebook. Pretty much explains it from what I have seen! :realcrazy:
For the sake of conversation, every site has its type of "guy" in general. The guys on FABO differ somewhat from those on FBBO and those from FFBO, in general. FB Marketplace is a much different pond with a lot of simple minded ducks and then there is the pond on the internet car forums with better ducks!. Some really good forums with a lot of talented people. Some well run, then there are the FB forums with some scammers and the people selling damn T shirts every day.
Thats moden (internet) America and not the ancient one where we listed classics for sale in the Sunday city newspaper or the only other place was MCG. (wow how old am I!???)

The type of car and $ range and the seller, in general differs on each car forum, be it internet, Ebay , Bring a Trailer, or what. Differs by state and part of the country.

I guess I am just poking fun at so much of the silly (stupid ) chit I see all the time.

I have my last two (probably) builds now, so I don't need to buy and give a c*** about selling.

There's always something not finished even on the "finished " cars its usually electrical, (horn does not work, the fuel guage, the wipers, the hazard lights etc.) but the paint is fresh and it looks good from 10 feet...it shines.

The guy that pisses me off the most is the guy that has a nearly perfect car and when you compliment them, they complain that it's fucked up because it has a paint chip in the engine bay or some other small defect and that they are embarrassed to drive it like that until they get it completely repainted.
They are meant to be driven paint chips and all same as a Harley etc.

The ones I cringe at are the disassembled projects that have a new (but crappy) paint job on them.
"All the hard work is done!" they crow. "Just need to reassemble!"
Yeah, right!
No telling how many parts are actually missing.
Not to mention the hardware!
