My son and I just did a base coat clear coat on our 72 dart.Everything went well untill we applied the clear.Room was clean ,car was clean and yet what appears to be thousands of specks in the clear[NO orange peel,it is peel free]
It seemed to be coming from the way the gun was set.It is a Sata gun.It appears to actually be small flecks of dried clear.we are going to scuff it with 800 then clear it a couple more times. We have to figure this out before we shoot again. We went through the sanding, buffing process, small ones are still noticable, when looking at it at an angle.
Was pressure wrong?Or something else? Any help will be appreciated.

sounds like you shot it too dry - try dropping the air pressure some and upping the paint volume a little. Practice on a old hood or scrap sheet metal until you get a wet layer without lots of paint particles in the air. If shooting too dry the paint will hang in the air and settle down as the clear coat flashes and it actually is dust ...paint dust. a good clear coat will be wet almost to the point of running but not run or sag . It is an aquired touch, that is why good painters get a fortune for paint

Its hard to say without seeing it but it might be solvent popping. One way this can happen when painting is inadequate airflow in the booth.
