I just wanted to share that when reading the Street Muscle Mag Newsletter this morning it had an article that Coker was making available new sizes for Firestone Redline’s and wide oval tires. There are going 5-6 new sizes up to NR50-15 and 295/50-15. I for one think these will look kick *** on a day2 project. I went to Coker’s web sight and could not see them listed yet for price and availability. I am sure these will expensive but will another option for our tire choices.

I hope they are better than the original ones that came on my 67 GTS because three out of four separated. The first one was right after I had out ran a GTO and as I was slowing down felt a bumping. I pulled in to gas station and had a knot about size of a fist on sidewall. I was lucky, Joe

I love the look of those Firestone Wide Ovals, but man them things will skate like Tanya Harding in a **** flick in the rain.

Those weren't Redlines that separated. Firestone had a recall on their tires in '78 or 79. I had them on my 74 vette and encountered the same separation. Redlines were on my 69 cuda from the factory. Never had an issue with them.

The old Firestone 500's of that era were known to blow out, a real kick in the berries to the brand, as they were the spec tire in Indycar/USAC.....oops......then came the "Seven around two, wrapped by one" Firestone 721 debacle.

Yep, just never heard of a Redline doing that.

I was a tire buster and then a mechanic for a Montgomery Ward’s Tire Center from 1975-1979. We featured Firestone Tires. You got everything right in your post. I do recall that someone would come in with tread separation and the tires were replaced with the same tire as part of the Firestone warranty. Sometimes the customer would return months later with tread separation in the replacement tire. My friend bought a set of 500s for his Gremlin even though I and the tire salesman told him that it was overkill for his car. When he sold the car 5 years later, the tire tread depth was almost the same as when I installed them because his car was so light.

I put a set of the 721 on my 79 Labaren, no traction what so ever
