I'd like to remove the black knob from the auto-column handle on my '72 Demon........

Can anyone tell me how it comes off ? I seem to remember a spline on those things, but figured I'd better pick some brains.............

I have a 1971 Duster 340 with column shift automatic, and I have the same question!

Is there a small pin in the lever that holds the end knob?

what i will let you know is there are no pins and unless its in a vice.. i couldnt hold my extra one ,with a pair of pliers and twist the tip off.. maybe someone will know.. but i bet it twists off with just a little MORE effort put in place

the end of the shifter handle is splined and the knob is pressed on. why do you need to take it off? to take one off you probably have to smash it with a hammer.

That's what I was afraid of............I've been working on a custom burlwood replacement..............I think I'll just buy another handle on Ebay, and experiment with that one.

I think those splines were heated when they put the plastic on.
