I have a '73 904 tranny with a TRANSGO SF TSFC kit installed in it. I ordered a B&M Shift Improver Kit #10225, but wanted to see if anyone could tell me why I shouldn't install it with the other kit in there already. I can't see anything with the two kits that would negatively interact with each other, but then again, I don't know what I'm doing half the time.

I have no answer but I am wondering why you want to put a shift kit in a tranny that already has one. I've always heard that Transgo made a good kit.

The SF TFSC kit that is installed doesn't do much to shorten the shifts. From the TRANSGO website on the kit installed: "Corrects/Prevents/Reduces: Converter slip-shudder. Leaks out vent or lever. Front bushing and seal burnup. Drainback Complaint."
I want to get quicker shifts and went with the B&M Shift Improver kit since that is all it does, improves the shift.

Different kits gets to the same results sometimes with different methods. I would get on the phone with trans-go and see if they have something that complements the installed kit.

I talked to them this morning. They told me that their TF-2 kit is an addition that will not interfere with what is already installed, but I wanted something a little simpler and didn't need the throw it into first gear at any speed modification.

Good luck. For me it's been hit and miss with B&M kit. Sometimes they work ok, sometimes they cause overlap which is very detrimental to the transmission. BTW: you don't need to do the shift command mod if you don't want. It's an option.

............Ur b+m kit has a specially made separator plate that is designed for it, trans co wasn't designed to use a different separator plate..........u could block the shuttle valve with the little rod, and or block the accumulator, modify the front servo etc.......kim........

Installed the B&M Shift Improver kit today and it worked great. Produced the exact result I was looking for. Shifts are quick and firm with no funny business. I noticed that the plate that comes with the kit had all the holes drilled to the max TRANSGO specifications. It was easy to install, but took me all day since I triple verified everything, adjusted the bands, and cleaned everything up real nice. I didn't end up having to worry about it working with the TRANSGO kit (I thought) was installed. Seems that the tranny builder I took it to failed to install it. That's another conversation for me to have with him tomorrow...
