connecting rods without oil skeeters

I was assembling my 318 shortblock yeaterday, and I noticed that half of the rod caps didn't have the oil skeeter holes for the opposite piston in them. I've never encountered this before, and find it strange. The rods have not been resized as far as I can tell, and the engine was running before with the same setup. Has anybody ever seen this before, and should it be cause for concern?

My aftermarket rods don't have them. I was told they are not needed (by my machine shop).... 5 years, MANY street miles, and HUNDREDS of passes down the 1/4 mile later, not 1 issue.
