I am thinking it may be time to change up the Dart a bit. I have always regretted having the vinyl top removed during the repaint. So I am thinking about changing up the look a bit and looking for suggestions. I know I am going to replace the steering box with a Firm Feel, install new shocks and possibly swap over to a 4bbl.

From there I am considering the following...
wheels? (15 inch rallyes with white letters or aftermarket wheels and blackwalls)
Black rear stripe?
red dual hood scoops?
Factory look hood blackout with black dual scoops?
70 rear bumper and tail lights? (already bought these)
switch from bench/column to buckets and console shift?

Your car looks awesome. I totally prefer the top with NO vinyl; I love the dual hood scoops; keep 'em the color of the car ! If you are gonna 'black out' the hood, consider leaving a 4 inch or so border of the red. Keep up the good work!

I love vynal tops. If it were my car I would install a black vynal top, and a black bumble bee stripe, and the blackout hood treatment with scoops, and 15 inch rallys.

Probably not going to add the vinyl top back, as I have no idea how they would get the tabs/pegs back on to hold the chrome trim in place. They were ground off when the paint and bodywork was done back in 2005-06.

Well I would put the white top on and white tail stripe & put the rocker molding back on.

They can pop rivet the clips on. Many non vinyl top cars got them put on back in the day when they were popular.

YES, I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED VINYL TOPS.

But hey it is your car, do what you want.

A set of crager S/S with redlines would look killer, but that is just me

Also I really like like the way the car looks without the body side moldings. Thinking about doing that myself before paint.

My vote would be a white vinyl top and white stripe. kind of depends on the interior color. There is also something to be considered with the side molding and no stripe! If you already filled the holes and done the body work then go with a stripe. You could also paint the top Black or white, which would make it easier to do without removing the glass.

for sure I would add the vinyl top back. 15" Rallies or Cragar SS, bumble-bee stripe, scoops, buckets and a console would be a sweet add.

Sent the car in for its refresh/makeover. I am still torn on changing the rear bumper over to a 70 style. Think it will look strange with a 70 bumper (maybe the 70 go wing) and vintage 1971 plates?

Not a fan of the butt stripes.....FAR to generic. People say Chebies are like a**holes, everybody has one. That applies to the butt stripes if you ask me.....I had some air brush work done......If I end up not needing the HEMI hood on the car I very well may take the flat hood to my tattoo artist and have replicate some of my tattoo's on it......

No vinyl top- looks way better without them. I personally don't like the hood scoops, but if you add them they gotta be black on a matte black hood. Stripes are getting cliche' like the Hemi hood scoops on the 67-69s. Was a cool thing at one time but too many people are doing it now. Stay with the '71 tail lights & bumper. Looks way better & you know it's a Dart & not a scamp.

If you run ramcharger scoops, are you going to do it right and set up the entire airbox system under the hood with the air cleaner base, etc? If not, I'd leave it be. It only cheapens the look of the car when the hood is open if it isn't done right.

Honestly, I think the monochromatic look of the car with the painted top is nice. The car looked good with the trim and vinyl top, too.

I don't like bumblebee stripes on anything newer than 1970, because I know it's wrong. Such as the same, I'd never paint my '68 Charger a high impact color.

I honestly think keeping the '71 taillights will give it the distinction of the year of your car. I like the look of the '70 taillights too, as that's what my GF's Scamp has by default, but the designation of a '71 Dart is the combination of inset side marker lights, divided grill and 4 taillights. If you start playing with that, it kind of bastardizes the car into a custom, which is ok in it's own right, but confusing as well. It will pass as a '70, only having the badges on the fenders, rather than back on the quarter panels.

I'm also certain that a '70 Swinger was still a high performance package, wheras '71 was a 318.

Don't worry about clips on the top, if you want one. You don't need to rivet new clips on, in fact, it's a bad idea on new paint, as the rivet expanding can crack the paint and primer and filler, if any small amount was used. Just drill holes and use a good seam sealer on the inside of the C pillar after installing the clips and mouldings. You can get to all of them.

Painting the top a different color will not make anything easier. You still have trim to remove, which should be very easy, considering the body shop already did this when they took the top off to paint what you have. It's as simple as using a hook pic tool to pull the clip from the glass side (not the paint side) and releasing the trim from the clip , starting with the bottom pieces. You can take that trim off in a matter of minutes. Just get a picture of the window clip and study it. It stays on the tab, on the car and simply bites the edge of the trim that sits against the paint, so you just pry it away from the body, toward the inside of the trim and it releases.

I don't think the car needs a top, but I do like them. I'd go with a white top and white interior, because it looks classy. Not a Dart, but the color and package is sweet on this rig. -

You could go black and white on the interior. I did black and white on the Scamp with a black top, black dash, black carpet, white upholstery, white lower door panels and a white double pinstripe on the 2nd body line on my GF's car.
