Console vinyl overlay

Would anyone have tips on removing the old vinyl woodgrain overlay? Mine is actually still stuck pretty good, just faded.

So nobody has EVER replaced that applique on any car that got restored? I don't believe that.

I would imagine a good old heat gun, razor blade to remove the overlay, and thinner to remove the old adhesive - should do the trick.
