I have access to a '65 'Cuda parts car and wondered if the fold-down rear seat assembly would fit in the GT. I love the feature in my '74 Karmann Ghia.

Has anyone done this?

Um, there is a metal bulkhead behind the seat back in your Dart. So you'd have to cut that away to be able to access the trunk space.

Also, the Dart does not have any of the reinforced mounting points for the hinges and locking mechanism on the folding seat.

Finally, the folding seat back would not fill the opening up to the package shelf like the existing seat back -- it's smaller and not the same shape. So you would need additional trim, at the least.

I knew about the x-frame behind the seat back. The idea was to cover it with the same material (carpet) as the back of the cuda seat. Your point on the void left under the package shelf will probably be the killer. The goal wasn't to go all the way to the tail lights like a 'cuda, just to make a tidy cargo space where the unused back seat is and have it look like it belonged there.

Thanks for the response. GR

Some fab work for sure ahead. Go for it. I think it will be cool.
