Ive seen this so many ways Im not sure what is correct from the factory. On 70 340 Swingers with the Hood black out what color should the scoops be ? I have seen them blacked out and I have seen them body color.

I have also see the hood black out with body color directly under the the scoops and blacked out under the scoops. Which is correct ?

FOOTNOTE:
Blacked out Hood got Black Bezels....
Body Color Scoops had Chrome Bezels either way.

IE: Blacked out Hood with small area under Scoops & Scoops Body color.
or just painted Hood and Scoops. = Chrome Bezels.

It is if that is the Blackout that was on the car. And if you just put this blackout on your car it looks correct and great! Anybody else? Comments?

Ive seen them so many different ways its hard to figure out whats what. I think thats how Im doing mine.

i'm sticking with what i said....seeing as this was not an applied decal. the process on the assembly line would have been slowed greatly with the many different combonations seen today. all factory literature that i have seen indicate either blackout hood w/ black scoops or body color hood and scoops.

im not sure exactly what is meant by that statement either? i have never seen black bezels. although from a strenght stand point haveing something there to keep the scoop from chipping makes sense.my first thought here is that the body color hood cars got solid chrome bezels, and the blackout hood car got chrome trimed bezels with blackout down the throat of the bezel. i will look it up in my parts book to see if they show 2 different ones.......stay tuned

well the parts book lists only 1 benzel # 3443 130-1. i have a set of these w/ this number. that being said the only way they could have had a solid black benzel would be to paint it. seeing how it is listing only 1 that would make it harder to do. chrome is listed in the dodge data book. that being said, it would require them to sand or somehow prime the chrome to allow the black paint to stick......your call i guess

Correct as/per all of my past research.........There was a blackout, or not. Scoops got the black just like the hood treatment, or it was the original body color for all........

I have never seen a combination of the 2 from the factory......

BUT, there's usually an exception to the rule.........although in this particular case, I don't think so. :read2: (my 4 cents............inflation and all....).

This is from the '71 Scat Pack brochure.
Can't very well tell if bezels are on the scoops or not...

-These brochures were not always "correct" as the production cars
and options varied. So. I quess this may not be very helpful.

Hey Adam,

The only "A" cars that I've seen that had black bezels with the black out, V21 treatment were Demon/Twisters.

All the other cars whether blackout or not, got chrome bezels. I have the same info on Part #'s as 7demon2 from the 1970-1972 parts books.

If the car was a V21, it got blackout scoops/chrome bezels (except as above), Body color hoods, body color scoops/chrome bezels. Never seen a documented mismatch of black/body color.

According to the order info for 1971 dart line cars, only Demon340 could get scoops. None of the other lines were supposed to have them available.

IMHO, I like them consistent. Hood blacked out, scoops black; body color hood, body color scoops.

The other issue, you going for the 70 or 71 blackout style???

Thats another thing I wondering. Was the hood black out available on the 50 Dart Swinger 340s sold in 71 ? I know they had the scoops. What about the tail stripe ? Available in 71 ?

None of the cars on this link have the hood black out so maybe I'll save my self the trouble and skip it, LOL

that link indicates that the tail stripe was availible and part of the run of 75. blackout? if i had to guess i would say no. the reason is because the blackout would have taken more effort to paint. the scoops were simple bolt on's and slap the decal and go.

also i am sure if you wanted it bad enough that dealer that sold these cars would have painted it on for you

Those are a neat run of Darts, especially the Crosstown versions. Those lucky Canucks!

Here's how mine looks, painted in Organasol, textured flat black, feels like 400 grit wet and dry.

Those flat black hoods are great until you get some wax on one. It seems radiation won`t get that crap off! Nice Dart Airfix, and I love the house too, looks like a good porch to do some rockin` on.

Green painters tape does the trick, no wax on mine.
That's the neighbours porch, mines in the avatar, the big one out back is where the rockings done.
Cheers.
