Will the side marker lights from a 70 or 71 dart fit a 72 dart?

No, they won't - they are completely different.

What would have to be done to make them fit?

I think the 72's are mounted to the outsides of the panels while the 70-71's are flush mount. thay are also shaped different.

To get to fit would require some kind of flanging tool.

unless its an appearance thing your going for the 72 up side markers are pretty cheap and still available new. Used on tons of vehicles including vans!
