Need some help, trying to big block swap my new duster. Found this K frame for sale locally, owner says it’s out of a 69 barracuda. It’s obviously not original because of the spool mounts.

Sorry for the crappy picture, does this look like a DC big block K frame? @Jim Lusk

Would be better off using the conversion mounts with biscuit 1967-1972 style k member imho..

Looks like a small block K frame to me based on the engine mount locations.

Interesting that it’s set up with the earlier sway bar too. The 73+ K frames have the better design, the sway bar running through the K saves a ton of ground clearance and the engine mounts are a better design that doesn’t constantly fail like the cheap biscuits. Picture is pretty lousy, can’t tell if those mounts were added or not. A picture of the bottom of the K would show if it’s 73+ or 68-72 with the spool mounts added.

Not at all. For a big block conversion the best thing running other than a DC spool mount K is a 73+ slant 6 k with conversion mounts. I forget exactly what extra clearance that gets you but it saves at least one clearance modification to the K frame. And the better mounts, and the better sway bar.

It looks to be an original DC BB k-member. The mounts are moved back.

Compare the front left mount tab to the hole in the brace going front. The front tab is even with the hole on a small block k-member.

The tab on the one pictured looks back to far to be a small block . The big block left mount is back 1 3/16 the right side is back 13/16 . They looked to be moved back and were not cut and rewelded like the home made k-members.

Hmm. I see what you’re saying, the drivers mount appears like it could be further back than for a SB k member.

But quite frankly I think the quality of the picture makes it pretty difficult to tell even that much, let alone if it’s a DC k or some kind of homebrew. You can’t see nearly enough detail for that. I certainly wouldn’t assume anything beyond it looks like a spool mount V8 k frame. Without a picture of the bottom side it may not even be 73+, could easily be a conversion.

The pic blows, that’s what you get on Craigslist from an old timer. But the old timer had the DC K member so I’m glad I made the trip.

Nice find. came with 73 center link plus 67-72 stabilizer a lower control arms. How much did you steel it for? LOL

Shoot, man...I have a 73-76 K member that was modified for a big block and I would have made you a deal !

Thanks man, I just picked up this 72 Duster and the whole idea happened like an avalanche. I got a crazy deal on a running 400/727 combo, and it’s from a ‘76 cordoba so it has the right mounts for the DC K frame. It’s been a wild 24 hours!

$550 for the whole drop out minus T bars, and it has one bent strut rod. I figured a hellwig bar is $400 plus tax and conversion mounts are $100-175 depending on which one you use. I know I gotta refurbish everything, but I like having the real Mopar parts vs the aftermarket stuff personally.

Must be the week DC BB K frames are coming to the surface! I picked this one up yesterday. Supposedly was set up in a 69 Dart with a 440 but never run. Then taken back apart and put in the shed for years.

Sick! Great score, I really love the old DC/MP stuff and try to buy as much of it as I can find. Even the women!

U can tell it’s for a big block as the drivers rear mount ear is back past the steering box mount. A sb is pretty much inline with the steering box mount. Kim

Agreed, but the quality and angle of the original picture makes this pretty difficult to determine just from that picture.

Definitely a nice find for @MidnightSwinger!

Great score Jared. Before you spend a wad on a Helwig bar, look at @Kern Dog thread about his 69 Dart he's working on. He has a nice solution for a sway bar for a spool k frame and made his own tabs for the LCA's that are as nice or better than factory ones.
