Deck lid attachment

Ok, this might be a dumb question... But here goes. How does the deck lid on a 72 Duster attach to the deck hinges? I have an original deck lid for the car but had to source the hinges from a 71... Now the deck has the opening where the hinge slides into it and there are two holes for the hinge bolts on one side... But my hinges also have two holes drilled through that match up to the deck lid.... Problem, there's nothing there that's threaded for the bolts to screw into. Am I missing a piece, is there a backing plate with threaded inserts or something?

I haven't been able to find anything in my chassis manual that shows this exploded view of the deck attachment. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Pictures please?

Yes there is a tin insert that has 2 threaded holes you drop down into the hinge. I don't know what they are called.
