I found a vehicle with a dana in the scrap yard.
I have the crossreference parts list that I found under the seat.

The dana # 603835-3 or -4

I could not find this BOM in my parts list nor on the Spicer website.

Anybody can figure it out????
If it is a 60 I will be pulling it.

Thanks

its a 4X4 site but the dana info is all there. it will tell you how to ID the axle, as well as give you links to all the diffrent BOM's and configurations used.

one way to tell is the ribing cast into the housing will have a "60" cast into the rib. here is a pic of where to locate it. BTW that dana is out of a 69 ford F250 2WD. it has a little over 3 in diameter tube and is the thinest wall offerd in the 60's (3/8th wall i think but not 100% sure) it was chosen because it was one of the lightest dana's made. and since its a racecar i figured might as well start with a little advantage.

Is that in a Checker Cab?

That's what the BOM says. 603835 is a Dana 44 from what I found.

YES.

I could not get under the car to take a really good look, but it is definitely a Dana.

I want this to be a D60. (probably wishful thinking on my part)
Does anybody have a distance spec on the cover bolt holes so that I can measure to make sure.
The D60 is 10.5" approx. in the spacing for the center set of bolt holes top to bottom.
Does anybody know what it would be for the D44?

"one way to tell is the ribing cast into the housing will have a "60" cast into the rib. " This is true for older D60's. Newer ones do not have the 60 cast into it.
I search a lot of trucks in the scrap yard with a lot of D60s which do not have the 60 cast in. Not sure what year they stopped doing this.

sure it does the yare similar but the covers are different look at the covers from the 60 to the 44 they are different shaped. Look at the top and the bottom the 44 seems to curve while the 60 slants.

You could use a D-44, if you want lighter, look for a D-44 in Jeep ZJ's and early WJ's with the AL center section for less weight.
The ONLY issue that D-44 has is it needs a brace welded across the bottom of the rear, then you can throw whatever you got at it. . .

The D-44 has a 8.5" ring, and depending the pin stem is either 1.380 or 1.625 (same as the D-60), the newer WJ AL D-44 also has no c-clips
