Read a couple posts of members looking for the numbers matching engine for the car. Can anybody find out what car this 340 came in?

That doesn't really help much other than it was cast in 72.

Look on pass side just above oil pan rail near the drain plug. VIN will be stamped in a flat pad.

There other #s o the front of the block below the heads. There's also the vin# on the pass. Side down by the oil pan rail.

the pics you have there show the build date & casting #s . On the passenger side along the oil pan rail you will find an id pad & the vin (or no vin aka warranty block) . that will match the dash vin , fendertag etc. to id the car

Skep, I have been trying to do the same thing....I have a spare 340 block and the vin on the oil pan 0R126870....well that translates to the last 8 digits on the orig car vin. BUT its the 1st 5 digits on the car vin that gives car specific info(they dont put those 5 digits on the engine block that I know of)

8132 8132 engine built that day

It's a 1973 model year engine or possibly over the counter replacement.
