I used to use this back room as a woodwork/guitar shop, now it's quadrupling as porting/media blasting and parts storage.
It's being reorganized.

Blurry pic #1 is reorganizing the back room shelves.
Pic #2 is another room that I moved 2 of the garage shelves to.
Pic #3 is the parts I brought from my brothers that I had to move into the home gymn but will be reorganized this week.
Pic#4 is the 3rd garage shelf moved into a home gymn
Pic#5 is a 3rd shelf in the gymn.
I've gotten all of the shelving units moved to where they will stay but now am working towards moving EVERYTHING.
All of the parts that are going to be sold or thrown away have been moved to a shed outside to be sorted ,cleaned ,painted and sold later.

Garage area, After day 2 of re organizing.
Slow progress but will be worth not tripping over **** and having to go across the garage to grab tools.
Should be able to just roll the box to the work...

Mine was an obstacle course as well. I kept having to walk back and forth from one side of the garage to the other to grab a socket.
Then laying the socket on the ground next to the work and I have rolling boxes and carts but didn't have enough space to move them around.
Then picking up a bunch of tools and putting them back after a project.
After I should be able to roll the box over to the work and put the tool back right after I use it.
I do still have to figure out some sort of parts table or just clear the workbench.

most of my tools are in the basement and the garage is detached. I have to plan ahead or pack a box before I start. when I finish, the box stays in the garage for awhile before journeying back to the basement, where it sits until I can't find a tool in that box. that is when stuff gets put away to start the cycle all over.

I'm still not finished and working on it again today (day 3). I'm in no hurry though and hopefully it will be well worth it in the long run.

I recently started to label totes and it has worked out very well.
One added benefit of reorganizing everything is I've found a multitude of parts I forgot I had and am now putting them up for sale. I've posted some Mopar 440 parts on Local craigslist but gotten no bites.
Using the basement for storage and Garage as only the work space is a pretty good idea.

that just means there are two items too many in the garage. I used to pull everything out onto the driveway, clean, reorganize. looked at the finished product, looked great! realized something like the engine hoist or a stack of tires was still on the driveway.

Sometimes one is too close to the problem to see the solution. I do have empty wall space now but was starting to hit indecision.

I know that some things wont find their best home until I'm actually needing to use them and consider how often they are used.
It takes a quite a bit of envisioning the projects of the past and future. Some things that I learned/noted while reorganizing

*I realized that I use the cordless drill, bits and wire brush attachments every single day. So they need to be on the workbench and not in a drawer.
*I realized that (problem 1). I seldomly do electrical when doing cars, it's only when I'm building guitars that I get into those (problem 2). multiple electrical drawers. They need to be in the back shop room where I build guitars in the winter.
In writing this I've learned even more which are the bullet points (mental notes). I appreciate the feedback!
When I'm writing posts I feel it equally important to answer the question or comments as to leave solutions for future makers/builders who will run into the same problems.

Day 3- oreorganization is almost done in the garage. I got both hung today.
and the atv and mowers need work before I can get back on the 440...

I flipped the mount 180 and rebolted the engine down. Now it turns easier.It was hard to turn more than 90 before.
I found that #2 is cracked all of the way down the bore on this block. It's junk. I hope the other block is good otherwise phase 2 is back to square 1 and my end up scrapped due to the price increases from the current trade war and tarrifs.

I've always found it easier to manipulate the engine on the stand if the angled slots in the stand head are on top, instead of on the bottom like you have them. But whatever works best for you.

Since I've introduced a shelf full of parts that I had stored at my Brothers shop into no room, I've had to totally reorganize my whole house, garage, and yard. It's going to take a few full days but hopefully will be worth the effort.
* Everything that is stored in the garage is coming into the house in totes and on shelves.

Pic #2- I moved the three storage shelves into a back room.
*Only the current projects parts will be in the garage which is from now on a dedicated work space and no longer used for storage.
*Now I understand why so many Mopar guys yards have parts sitting outside in the mud everywhere.
*I found myself walking past the Duster to the other side of the garage to get tools when the tools were in a rolling toolbox....
There wasn't enough room to move the toolbox to the work....

I've always found it easier to manipulate the engine on the stand if the angled slots in the stand head are on top, instead of on the bottom like you have them. But whatever works best for you.

I agree and have the same experience. I usually do too and it was why I had it like that first. It was really hard to turn over 90 for some reason on that block... It's already off the stand and in the weeds...lol
I think the pivot was welded in off center on that stand. My other stands are all the way you said and rotate fine...

I haven't been to Georgia since I went to college in 1990 Sand Hill at Benning...If you really needed the help I may at no charge.
I've basicly filled a 3 bedroom with parts shelves and totes,lol.

I'm sure you could make it better.....but I just have so much stuff that ended up as storage. That's what I really need is a storage building. Then I could move some things out of the shop that really shouldn't be there. I need to make the mezzanine I've needed for years. That would help greatly. But then, I need a sack of money too and that eludes me still.

I won't know if it works until I have to use one of them but for now they are off the floor and Overhead, 21 inches from the ceiling.

I had to go to the store for 10 more totes and worked till 1:30 am reorganizing ,building a few more moving dollies and shuffling stuff out . I'll get some pics tomorrow.

Exactly what i was thinking when I took out everything that doesn't roll except for the shop table. I'm now thinking of putting the yellow 44 inch top on a dolley under the shop table.(pics 2 and 3) I have a bunch (7) of the Hobo Freight dollies free'd up from moving the totes they were sitting on.
I want to keep 2 dollies free but use the rest.

Looks great! you must be young enough to bend down that far to get stuff out of the box if it's under the bench. I can get down, getting up might take a bit of work. I know the freight dollies are less expensive but Menards has a larger diameter wheel for easier rolling. that may not matter, your floor looks smooth. mine looks like the ice age glaciers skimmed off the top coating of the concrete. gives me inspiration; motivation or energy ,no, but inspired none the less.
