72 Demon is coming home with a new paint job- medium charcoal metallic. Going with matte black strips, tail panel. I want to do the blacked out hood w/stripes and a dual snorkel. When I was shopping around for best price/quality on the tape stripes I came across Phoenix Graphix. The prices were too good to be true for the quality/good reviews, so I called- apparently they're the manufacturer and are supplying all the people that are jacking up the price ($500-$600 for the same kit in some places). Anyway, while I was talking to them I was told that the skinny hood stripes are tape and the large black center area is painted on. I can't find much literature on this, any thoughts?

FYI- The stripes are 3M and they'll make them in a custom color for a $20 surcharge (no returns on custom colors).

Emy,

That's true, it is how they came from the factory. If you look at a factory original car (or a picture) you can see the stripes are a different shade of black then the center section. Some people decide to paint both the center and the stripes so they will match. Here's some additional info you may find useful:

This company offers a paint stencil kit so you can paint the stripes and the center:

Here is another company offering the tape stripes: http://www.performancecargraphics.com/Stripes_Lettering/Demon/71-72_Hood_Pinstripes.htm

Here's a thread from a fellow-FABO member who painted his on: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showpost.php?p=1970388556&postcount=253

Lastly, here's a good thread on hood scoop placement and stripes (long read): http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=14058&highlight=scoop
