I see the price to buy these permanent magnet alternators has come way down in price as well as the regulators. New solid state versions now available for $11 dollars for the regulators.
So in a drag race only application, besides the obvious low charge amps, what are the pros and cons of these two types of alternators.
I am thinking the permanent magnet would be more consistent because they charge full out all the time, but only at 20 amps. The excess amps being turned to heat at the regulator.
Any thoughts.
