I'm boltig my 65 back together and noticed that half the radiator is behind the front valance blocking airflow. I'm wondering if maybe I should open up a big *** hole to allow more airflow. I doubt I'll be putting the front bumper back on to free up weight.

My 65 I had back in the late 60's was built to the hilt engine wise and I never had a bit of overheating trouble. My 1st wife drove it from Colorado to Missouri to visit me when I was in the Army and it never missed a beat.

I can't think of any Mopar, A-body or otherwise that had an overheating problem in stock form. In fact, the stock cooling systems (22" radiator) will be just fine with a substantial increase in power.

The grille area on your 65 is more than the radiator area, so you're fine. Opening up the valance will significantly increase the chances your radiator gets destroyed by a rock.
