Did anyone actually slow down to 55 MPH in 1974?

And here we go into modern political spin land...and it was a nice thread about history taliking about what we did in those days.

Damn shame it has to always get turned into modern politics by some.

Getting back to the original theme. Yes, I did slow down to 55 mph. Usually, 60 mph on the Interstate. What a bummer. I remember riding in the family station wagon as a kid, with mom at wheel, doing a legal 75 mph. 55 did seem like crawling.
When the 55 mph was repealed, the news media cried about all the mayhem that would be on the highways. They were right, but that was when cell phones and texting came about.
As for the Victory Speed, keep in mind back then there were no interstate highways. (I'm sure someone is going to counter me on that). According to the movie, "Reefer Madness", 45 mph was a dangerous and careless speed.:steering:
