Did I over cam my 408 for the street?

Your converter will go closer to 3K with a stroker. I would run it as is. It will be fine.

That engine will make as much tq at 2500-3000 that most streeter 360 make at peak.

I totally agree. I have a slightly smaller solid flat tappet cam in my 408 with 3.55 gears and it runs fantastic. Nice rumbly idle, very docile on the street, pulls to 5800 no problem. Ran 12.24 at 112 (traction limited I might add) and if I keep my foot out of it will get 15+ mpg. My car is heavy too. With a full tank of gas and me (180 lbs) in it it weighed 3720

Rob's also right about the converter. I re-used the PTC converter that I had built for my old 360. It stalled 3000 behind my 360. It stalls 3500 behind the 408 at half pedal when the drag radials are breaking loose.

I'd just like to also mention that we don't all think alike. A cam that seems radical to one guy may seem tame to another and vice versa. For a street car I don't care for the rattle your teeth out of your head idle, but that's just what I like.
