I totally agree. I have a slightly smaller solid flat tappet cam in my 408 with 3.55 gears and it runs fantastic. Nice rumbly idle, very docile on the street, pulls to 5800 no problem. Ran 12.24 at 112 (traction limited I might add) and if I keep my foot out of it will get 15+ mpg. My car is heavy too. With a full tank of gas and me (180 lbs) in it it weighed 3720
Rob's also right about the converter. I re-used the PTC converter that I had built for my old 360. It stalled 3000 behind my 360. It stalls 3500 behind the 408 at half pedal when the drag radials are breaking loose.
I'd just like to also mention that we don't all think alike. A cam that seems radical to one guy may seem tame to another and vice versa. For a street car I don't care for the rattle your teeth out of your head idle, but that's just what I like.
