Difference between 8 1/4 and 8 3/4

I want to know how can u tell the difference between an 8 1/4 and 8 3/4 rearend is there anything thats noticeable that different.

2/4ths? haha umm the 8 1/4 has a cover and drain plug on the rear the 8 3/4 has the bolts on the front

The 8 1/4 has a removable pan on the back,as where the 8 3/4 is smooth and the centersection bolts in from the front.Hope this helps!Here,s a pic. of a 8 1/4.

Also the 8 1/4 breaks a bit sooner when hammered on. Of course, nobody on this forum would know anything about that.

When it comes right down to it, some people see it as this: STRENGHT
Most 8 1/4 can handle up to approx. 400 HP, while the 8 3/4 will handle 800 or more.
