Different types of 8 3/4's

What are the different types of cases for the 8 3/4 and some of their strengths and weaknesses?

A buddy and I just snagged one out of a "B" body for my 71 dart but I can't even find a number on it what kind of case it is. Is there a stamped number somewhere?

Looks like I have the 741 case.

If I add a suregrip to this do you think it would live behind a dart running high 11's on street tires for a couple of years?

Yes, it should be just fine. We as Mopar guys are always throwing the 741 under the bus, but compared to other automakers rears are still as strong or stronger. Look at this link and the size of the 9" Ford and 12 bolt Chev truck compared to the 741. Also look at the bearing sizes.
