I have a 7.25 differential in my '76 dart. I've been told if I go up to a 8.75 that it is a better differential. Also that I would have to shorten the drive shaft. What if I found a 8.75 on an a-body and also snagged the shaft from the same car. Will that work?

Yes, the driveline would have to be shortened 2.26" if you go to an 8 3/4 from the 7 1/4. You could use the driveline out of the car that had the 8 3/4 if, the car was the same wheel base as your Dart. Dart Sports, Dusters, A-body Barracudas and '73 down Valiants have a different wheel base than a "regular" Dart. Also the car couldn't have a 727 because they are different length than the 904, 3 speed manual and 833.
