I'm trying to set the drive gear/pinion backlash and I'm at .015. The shim on the ring gear side is .265.
Does anyone have a thicker shim? a .270, .275, or .010, .007? I'd rather work with the thicker shims to minimize wrecking the thinner ones.

Thanks.

isn't the side play adjustable on a 7.25? Been a while since I have been in one.

It's done with shims and a diff spreader. I made a crude spreader out of scrap iron and some small hydraulic jacks.

Nobody around here had shims so I had to sand thicker ones down with some sandpaper stuck to a flat plate. I think I used adhesive backed 220 grid. Keep changing direction so they sand evenly and mic them in multiple location to ensure they are uniform thickness.

So if you can find something thicker than you need, you can make it work.

Thanks again everyone. I pulled some spacers from a backup rear end, sanded one down and I have a good backlash, .008.
