Damn!!!!

I can't get an aftermarket dipstick for a magnum smallblock?
Anyone know? for such a small thing this is proving to be a pain in the ***!!!

Anyone have an idea? Or am I limited to a factory one?

I dont know, that's why I'm asking.
The magnum dipstick is longer for one thing because it's a rear sump, while LAs are mostly center sump.

And I am using the magnum rear sump pan. I have no choice really.

I dont want to buy a 300 dollar pan for the dipstick that comes with it. LOL

Oh I see. Good luck

Gee thanks!!!! LOL!!!
Yeah, it's like that though.
I can get a cheesy factory one, but I really dont want that.

I might have to.

Magnum and LA have the same dipstick location and hole in the block, correct?

I think that's the same on them. I've only had one magnum engine in a 93 Dakota. It had the front dipstick in the same spot as the LA does but I never really looked down there to see if is exactly the same. I remember yrs. ago seeing universal chrome dipsticks that you cut and mark to fit. Don't know if they still make them but it might be worth a look. Use a aftermarket chrome tube for an LA and cut/mark to fit dipstick?? May work. Only thing I can think of.

Yeah, that's what I'm beginning to think myself.
I really want to get something fancy like a lokar since I am also considering getting the entire BADASS march serpentine setup....because I "need" it. LOL

The more the engine comes together, the more I realize a lot of the old stuff is NOT going back on it without being fully redone, or replaced entirely.

I'm even sold on using all stainless fasteners. Ever see the nice ARP intake bolts?
I put them on today and GOD!!! I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I'm thinking the truck is going to be painted too....silver with a black hood and hemi scoop...kind of like ron silva's valiant.

It all starts with a motor and suddenly the motor is too good for the rest of the vehicle and you end up going through the whole thing. I'm even looking at coilovers so I can fit these 15 inch tires and wheels I have sitting here....LOL ok I'll stop there.

I'm just going to have to experiment with the dipstick. I'll have a friend come over with his dakota and take measurements. I still have the dipstick, all I need is the right tube length.

LOL... I know how it is brother. I got the March serpentine system on mine too, cause I need it, LOL. I also have all stainless fasteners. Not the real nice ARP ones. They didn't have them when I did my engine but I am getting some for the new 408 that I will hopefully finally have done in about a month.

I would call to double check, but Hughes has a nice stainless dipstick for a Magnum listed on their website.

BTW, I'm using a stock length LA dipstick (rear sump from 80's 318 ) in my magnum. The flimsy part of the stick is ~28.5", so the the 21" models found on Jegs, Summit, etc won't work. However, I cut the stock magnum tube down to use the la stick(magnum stick is a few inches longer so I cut the difference off the tube, for hood clearance) so I'm not sure if this helps you at all, but I would be more than happy to take some measurements if this peaks your interest. It's just too dark right now to get in there for any kind of real accuracy.

Yes sure! go for it!
I may have to call hughes and ask them about that dipstick. That is exactly what I want, but the picture doesnt show the extra foot and a half or so of the dipstick that goes down the channel in the pan to the sump in the rear. I wonder if the handle comes off that one, because then I can use the original....hmmm I never saw that one on their site...

Cool!

Did you get a chance to call Hughes?

Took a couple measurements for ya. The tube for my dipstick 8 3/4" long (installed in block), and the dipstick (flimsy part only) is 28 9/16" to the tip. Again, don't know if this helps you in any way, but if it does that's awsome. Keep up the good work!
