dist. roor play

-
Are you talking about side to side wobble or rotational? I thought I had a rotation problem with my distributor and it ended up bieng the advance unit. The play I thought I had was just the vacuum advance unit working properly. As far as side to side wobble I would go for none since that will directly affect the gap setting on the pickup.

im talking about rotational if it move like 1/4 inch maybe more but i have the intake manifold off at teh moment and the gear is only moving a very small amount also when the dist. is out i can hold the shaft and it a tiny bit

I just pulled my cap off and checked mine and I also have a little rotational play. I think it's from the advance unit. I'm not sure if this desireable but, I have no issues with timing flutter. Best way to make sure it's good is put a timing light on it and watch the timing at several different rpm's, make sure it's rock steady and not jumping around.
