Distributor clearance

I installed the msd ready to run unit and it solved many issues, then the car developed a pretty gnarly misfire.
The distributor smushes the plug wire right up to the wiper motor mounting plate area. Before I just hack the part-that-rubs off completely, I figure I’d ask what you all have done.

Those wires are JUNK. I'd bet money if you did that in the dark it would scare the hell out of you. The light show would be fantastic.

Get new wires. No way should it fire through the boot to that nut.

I’ve been wanting a new set of wires anyway, I’ll give it a try.

Slide a thin sheet of plastic/wood between there and see if the misfire disappears.
