DIY bolt plating

I've located a random set of bolts that I need. Unfortunately, they are only available in bare steel. Is there a way you can plate bare steel bolts at home and have it be durable and rust resistant?

Yes, but it's not cheap. Basic kit will cost 50-75 dollars.

This is what I need, but they are bare steel. Not sure if someone out there makes a plated or coated one. I'm going to check my local hardware store on the way home.

Check this site. I used this method and it works fairly well. You will probably want to get one of the chromate dips from Caswell to protect the zinc.
