do i need a new fuel sender?

hello,
my gas gauge reads 1/4 tank less than what it really has, do I really need a new sender unit or can i adjust the current one.

Remove sender to bend arm slightly. Please do this with less than 1/2 tankful. Check float, that it doesnt have gas in it. Check filter on pickup.
