Dodge A 100 thread

-
I love A-100s! I first got to drive one in 67 when I worked at the news agency in the town I grew up in. They had 4 of them, all different from each other. They led a hard life, constantly being heavily overloaded with newspapers. In 68 they traded all of them in for 4 new ones that were all the same, 108 w.b. window vans 6/auto with 3:91 gears. They were nice and tight when new and would even squeak the tires when shifting into 2nd.

In Sept. 68 I bought a used 66 base model 6/auto window van for $1200. A month later I stuffed it into a telephone pole head-on at about 35 mph. It was a good lesson on why you should wear seat belts, and since I was I was able to walk away from something that could have seriously injured or killed me.

Two weeks later I bought another used 66 window van, this one a deluxe version with a V-8/auto for $1500. In the spring of 69 I decided it needed more power, so an engine swap was called for. I picked up a Commando 273-4bbl engine from the junkyard out of a 65 Barracuda. Now before this the only wrenching I had ever done was on lawnmowers. I approached this job with the idea that all we're doing is unbolting and reassembling stuff, so how hard can that be? Famous last words. This simple one-day job stretched out several weeks because of all the bonehead rookie mistakes that were made.

I have seen the Green & Gold pickup in person. It was done by a father and son team from southern Ontario. It is truly show quality, however they do get it out on the road. It has a 392 for power.

I just went through he thread again, I noticed there are a number of A108's included in the mix. I love them all, but I have a special affection for the A108's That little but of extra room served well to get the front passenger seats out of the side door opening.
The early long wheel base "B" vans had that same configuration. It was later changed by moving the side load doors forward on the body. A change I never agreed with.

My friend, over the course of this summer, paid off an A 108 window van. Slant six, 3spd column. It was an early pop up conversion. Has all of its maintenance history in the glove compartment, along with the owner's manual and Chrysler service bulletins.

He spent about $4k on it and got a nice one, with good original paint. I'll see if I can get some pics.

took a look at one last night .......my cousin tried to buy but no dice for now :bball:

Who could possibly not like these? :thumblef:

I love these, After I got my Barracuda and going to car shows being the odd one out I found I liked the A100 [the pickups more than the van] there was several for sale here but [alas me hava no money]! That green/gold one is awesome but the rusty patina one is cool too. These are a few from a mopar gathering here last year!!!

Saw this one in Racingjunk.com. I almost called about it. http://www.racingjunk.com/Dodge/181934165/1969-Dodge-A100-Pickup.html

i always loved the A100s and A108 compact vans/pickups. my childhood friends older brother had an A100 shortie window van that he spray painted the rear windows black so it looked like limo tint, it had cragar S/S wheels on it, and was primer black. always thought it looked cool.

many years later after just moving to abilene TX in 1995 i saw an A108 cargo van in my local boneyard at around 1997. it was a V8, 3 on the tree, and the body was straight and rust free, original paint was a chalky white. i thought if i had the money and place to keep it id want to save it, maybe custom it out. but living in an apartment, and having no garage or place to keep it prevented me. id still like to have one, or a B series tradesman 200 up to 1977, as i didnt like the tall rear lamps or quad headlamps on the newer ones, but rather liked the earlier grilles and tail lamps better.

nice A100/A108 vans/pickups. keep the pix coming. i especially liked the green and gold one. that setup with the bigs n littles would be cool under an A100 panel van.

that one A100 van, the one that was on the ferry had some cool louvered side glass too. almost like a camper trailer. used to be an A100 where i grew up that was painted up yellow with the servicemaster decals on it. had cragars on it too. guess its owner was a servicemaster franchisee.

A friend has these two for sale and it's all I can do to keep from making him an offer. both V-8, one auto and the other a manual.
