In 1968, the Formula S package included a 275 hp motor, heavy-duty suspension, firm-ride shocks, E70-14 Red Streak tires, and dual-exhaust. Total Formula S production for 1968 was 5,196 units, with more than half of that or 2,857 being fastbacks with 340 power. Total Formula S 340 units were 3,917, and total Formula S 383 units were 1,27012.
thanks, that is what i am thinking as well it has p.s. p.b. and A/C so pretty highly options as well and it has 13,000 actual original miles. Needed a water pump and i went ahead to do the timing chain as well and it is perfect Double row chain and Factory numbers on the gear..AmazingThat's a rare car!
thanks for the info not very good with a computer...my 64 year old brain just dont get it.Google is your friend

no it was originally Beige from the factory and the guy who had it before me painted it copper...I have yet to find anything that is not factory on it...still has the original hoses on it. i checked the numbers and it is 100% numbers matching....wish there was a way to find out how many with these options and color were built....still has the original hubacps that i found in the trunkIs it red? do you want me to PM you some?Do you have pictures of the engine compartment?
Untouched original motor with original hose would make a great reference for those restoring their cars to original.
Sure.do you want me to PM you some?
Helps more FABO members if they're posted here for all to see.do you want me to PM you some?

l get some photos it was partially paintedGreat looking car! Thanks for posting it. Did they paint engine room or leave it alone?
Did all of the 1968 formula S cars have the rocker trim originally?
No. There were two types, and they were extra cost as stand alone options or part of a package. The "Custom Sill Moldings" (gills and spears) were included in a Spring Special package.Did all of the 1968 formula S cars have the rocker trim originally?

After a while you get use to facts and figures being wrong about these cars.I was getting ready to copy the page out of the, "Chrysler Corporation Production Option Code Book", then I saw on the first page it could not be copied. So, here are a couple lines of the Serial numbers beginning with "BH29" that's the Fastback, my Convertible Formula S is BH27, and the notch back is "BH23".
Decoding the serial #
B=Plymouth
H= Price class, High
23= 2 door Hardtop
27= convertible
29= 2 door Sports Hardtop
H= 383 4bbl
P= 340 4bbl
So, your serial should begin "BH29P"
340-4bbl S 2,857 units
1074 4 speed
1800 Auto
The numbers for 4 speed and Auto in the book don't jibe. Total in the book says 2857 units. But 1800 auto and 1074 4 speed come to a total of 2874?
In the above HipHip add, it says available with "Floor mounted shift lever(Hurst for 3 speed and console for automatic). I'm assuming the "3 speed" is a typo and should be a "4 speed". You can't always take adds for absolute. My 68 Convertible 383 came with an Inland shifter, not a Hurst. The "Urban Legend" I heard on the 4 speed shifters was, the Hurst was the better shifter, but the Inland was a few cents per unit cheaper? Blame it on the Bean Counters.
