Door lock question.

On the door pulls on the inside of my car ( 1972 Demon 340 ). Can anyone tell me what thread size the rod that the pull to unlock on the door is? One of my original ones broke the other day. I have a new set but don't want to force thread them on if I can pretap them, or if someone can tell me a trick to threading them on without forcing them. Sometimes the smallest things can be the biggest pain. lol
