Door striker pin issues

I hope everyone is doing well... I have a quick question...

I have a1971 Swinger ( friggin love this car ! ) I have noticed that my door striker pins on both the driver and passenger side are presenting rust issues along side of the pins - I can wiggle the pins ( slightly ) side to side and there is a visble stress / crack line along the the sides of the pin

So there'ss the problem can someone steer me in a direction that will be both frugal and efficient ? I have done a little research and see that some guys weld a plate in behind the pin inside the rear door panel to provide more stabilty and then cut and remove the rust ..has anyone had any issues and can provide some guidance ? I just bought this car last year and have put alot of work in to it so far....I cant afford any type of frame off resto thats for sure

So bear with my stupidity --but does this piece fits over top of the striker pin ? Or is it welded in behind the pin in the rear door panel ? I'm trying to look at it and see how it fits -- my door jamb is good it's along side of the striker pin that has the rust / cracks

I did the same thing as hemiorange. Worked great and is very solid
