This might seem dopey to most of you, but I have never dealt with air conditioning in an old muscle car (or any other car for that matter).

I am preparing to pull the 318 from my '68 'Cuda. It has factory air conditioning. Upon reassembly, I plan to use a more modern air conditioner with a scroll compressor and more readily available refrigerant (definitely need AC in southeast Texas).

The problem is that I have never disconnected an AC system. What do I need to do to accomplish this? Simply crack a hose nut and let it bleed out? Is there a market for the old parts?

Thanks for any help.

The correct (and enviromentally friendly) way would be to have an AC shop recover the refrigerant (if any is still present). You've mentioned another method too.

OK, it's the "other method" for me. The amount of freon remaining in the system would be like a fart in a hurricane by now. Thanks.

If you have all the stuff for the convert, take it to a shop and have them do it. CFC's last for damn near forever
