Hello,

Can you tell me if I swap out the 7.25 rear end in the car now to the a-body 8.75 rear/ 489 case I have now, can I use the same driveshaft?

You'll need to shorten the driveshaft and possibly use a conversion u-joint, depending on which yoke is on the 8.75. You might be able to physically put the shaft in place, but as you drive, it will beat the rear of the transmission and destroy it.

Maybe if you shorten it. And depending on what yoke it has, get an adapter U-Joint. But if I was going to the trouble of installing a new rear, I'd go for a new shaft and matching 7290 joints/yokes at both ends.

I think you may have to shorten it to use it with the 8.75. I`ll check a book I have and give you the lengths.

Sorry no. There is a 2.25" difference in from centerline of axle to centerline of yoke. the 8.75" has 12.35" where the 7.25" has 10.09".
I have the same issue plus i went from a 904 to a 727 trans.
