does anyone have any tricks for dropping the oil pan from a /6 duster without taking out the engine? some of the bolts seem almost impossible to get to with the K frame

The best "trick" I know is to pull the engine. My God, what are you talking about? Maybe 25 bolts?

loosen motor mounts and raise motor with cherry picker. make sure to block it up before putting your hands in there.
