I have a 72 dart ,i believe the brakes are all stock,it has manual drum brakes. It has the 4" b.p. for wheels..Anyways ,,I was looking at the ssbc kits to convert to disc up front...It says I have to have original equipment 10" drums..How do you measure your drums?..Thanks

9" drums were standard on all "six cylinder" cars from 1963-1975. The shoe's are 2.5" wide. The 10x2.25" were standard on V8 cars from 1965-1972 To measure your drum, just measure arcoss the dia of it.

You had better pull it and measure to see what size it is, I have a '75 Scamp /6 parts car with the SBP and it has 10" front drums so you never know.

the inside measurement ,where the pads actually touch is 9" .So Im guessing the SSBC kits wont work ,unless you change spindle??.Im thinking I need to find an A body at the junk yard...What all do I need to take off of a donor car.Any particular years I should look for.

Yeah ,you`ve got 9" brakes and I don`t think any of the aftermarket brake companies make a kit for the small drum brakes. You may find someone here on the site that can supply the proper spindles for you to get started. I`m not sure if that`s all you`ll need, hopefully someone will chime in here who`s done the conversion and give you all the 411. In the meantime give SSBC a call and see if they have a Mopar expert that can tell you what their kits will fit.

All you need are the 10 inch drum brake spindles off another A body. The rest of the SSBC kit will still work on your car.

or you could try Scarebird http://www.scarebird.com/
they are the only ones i know that do anything with a
9 inch mopar...it is an adapter plate the allows you to use 1990
celibrity calipers and rotors
i do not know how good this system is, however, i am in the process
of trying the 10 inch adapter plate(same celibrity stuff)
on my 68 valiant, should know something late saturday
