elementary carb questions

I usually try to stay away from the engine bay but I'm trying to change out my 1920 Holley. The replacement I have has a few features the original 68 was missing and I don't know what I'm doing. specifically the EGR vacuum line; the vapor line , and the vapor canister tube. Also one of those niffy little clamps that keep the throttle level in place snapped, are they available anywhere. Needless to say in spite of the obvious incomplete set-up I tried to crank it anyhow. Didn't start and gas leaked out not sure where from since nobody was watching. Thanks for the help, it's sort of fun but more rewarding when things work.

The original '68 carb wasn't "missing" features.

Cap it securely.

the vapor line , and the vapor canister tube

Sounds like you are working with a 1973 Holley 1920. The purge port is the one that exits forward-rightward at the very base of the carburetor. Cap it securely. The bowl vent tube is the large diameter one that comes off the top-front of the carb. Leave it open; do not cap it.

Thanks Dan: I am going to try again. I don't consider myself very mechanical. I have done the starter, alternator, water pump, radiator over the years. Major victories for me. I now have a magnetic device in my chest and it is not recommended that I hang out near the running alt. and since things take me forever I'm off the hook. The original carb was dumping fuel out. I was looking for a Walker rebuild kit and happened across this carb for next to nothing. Just want the car movable so I can get it in and out of the storage space without pushing, thought changing the carb would be a simple solution. I'm at the crossroads as to its future with me. I will look for the plugs to cap the egr outlet and small vapor port at the parts store.
