I'm putting my 318 back together and I was wondering what bolts require the use of sealer on them?

I would like to avoid leaks so I only have to do this once :)

Thanks

Anything that threads into the water jacket. Some use teflon sealant or tape, but I've always used Permatex Ultra high temp red. It just works. Remember, adding something to bolts that require torquing will change their torque value. I always have just added 5 LB FT.

Thanks StrokerScamp, just to be safe I will probably use that on the timing cover and water pump bolts. I have a whole tube of the red permatex, as far as the exhaust goes is it just the end studs that require sealant?

And the head bolts don't require anything correct?

Thanks for all the help

I put red rtv on every head bole I install. Whether it goes into the water jacket or not. It assures the bolt won't seize in the block. Yes, the four studs on the head ends are the only ones that go into the water jacket.
