So im resealing my engine. New freeze plugs etc gaskets. Im going to paint it after. Any suggestions how to clean off the old engine enamel? And what are you guys using sealant wise if any on freeze plugs?

How far! Total strip or just touch ups?

That pump looks like it needs a light blast. Or meticulous sanding. Good prep and refinish.

Doing some 8 year touch ups on my fish now.

Putting frost plugs in dry is not a good idea, unless you want leaks.

Here is the proper sealer to use:

You can sand blast your water pump to clean up the exterior of it. Just put some tape around the seal shaft area and stay away from that with the blaster.

Wire wheels On the engine block. 80/180 grit DA sander on the valve covers.

I would paint before installing freeze plugs and use brass plugs.

I have brass plugs for it. I want to clean it up as best as possible and do a repaint but im not removing the heads. I appreciate the responses. Now the fun begins i guess
