I believe it's a 318...I just found out it was a slant six car so i'm wondering what year the engine is

So where exactly do I look for the casting date?

On the side of the block not sure on what side. it will be like XX-XX-XX
On the drivers side under the exhaust manifold will be the casting date. Geof
